Geomembrane Construction Illustration

1. HDPE geomembrane applied in earth dam:

1.1 Application:

HDPE membranes can be used for waterproofing earth dams, newly built mixed soil and rock dam, upgrading and repairing, embankment material has strong permeability.

1.2 Layout form:

The layout forms of HDPE geomembrane for earth dam are shown in the following figures 1.a, 1.b, 1.c, 1.d

1.3 Technical calculation of HDPE membrane for earth dam

a) Items to be calculated:

When designing HDPE membranes for earth dams, the following calculations should be performed:

– Calculation and selection of HDPE membrane parameters: thickness, permeability coefficient, tensile strength, puncture resistance.

– Calculate the seepage through the dam and the foundation to determine the saturation line, infiltration gradient, infiltration flow.

– Calculation of the stability of the HDPE membrane and the upper blanket (slip, buoyancy, puncture)

b) Calculation cases:

Applied in accordance with TCVN 8216:2009

2. HDPE geomembrane applied in canals and ditches:

2.1 Application:

HDPE geomembrane can be used to waterproof canals and ditches passing through geologically permeable areas or channels transporting water with waste and pollutants.

2.2 Layout form:

In the design stage, it is necessary to analyze the geological conditions of the ground, waterproofing and protection requirements to choose one of the forms of arranging HDPE membranes for canals and ditches as shown in Figures 2a, 2b, 2c, 2d.

Notes:

(a) Geomembrane layout without protective cover;

(b) Arrange geomembrane with a protective cover on top;

(c) Geomembrane layout with geotextile underlayment;

(d) Geomembrane layout with top and bottom geotextile lining and upper protective cover.

Notes:

1/ The layout of HDPE geomembrane for the roof of canals and ditches is only applied when the foundation has a small permeability coefficient.

2/ The layout of geomembrane in figure 2d is only applicable in special cases or works with important properties affecting the economy, society and the surrounding environment.

3 HDPE geomembrane applied in pond, water and wastewater storage tanks:

3.1 Application:

HDPE membrane can be used to waterproof ponds and reservoirs on geologically strong permeable soils or waste ponds and reservoirs. The area below the HDPE membrane must be designed synchronously with the ventilation system and the permeable drainage system to avoid the reverse phenomenon of water and air on the waterproof membrane. The material for the drainage ditches for permeation and air release can be seen in Figures 4 and 5.

3.2 Layout form:

The HDPE geomembrane layouts for ponds and lakes are shown in figures 3 and 6.3.1 Application: HDPE membrane can be used to waterproof ponds and reservoirs on geologically strong permeable soils or waste ponds and reservoirs.

The HDPE geomembrane layouts for ponds and lakes are shown in figures 3 and 6.
